Contractor Permits & Applications
Upon issuance of a permit, it must be visibly posted at the job site at the commencement of the work. Many of the permits issued for repair or replacement will require inspections upon completion of the job only. Inspections for new construction will typically include, but not limited to:
- Sewer taps
Inspections must be called in not later than 4 p.m. the day prior to the inspection being requested. Inspections are conducted on business day. No inspections on weekends or holidays.
Inspections must be requested by providing the following:
- Permit number
- Contractor name and contact
- Contact phone number
- Address for the inspection
- Type of inspection
With each permit application, you must submit a copy of your Texas State Plumbers, Electrical, or Mechanical license. Contractors and Sub-Contractors must provide a Certificate of Insurance naming the City of Castle Hills. There is no fee for registrations as a contractor with the city.
No temporary portable storage unit shall be placed on a business or residential lot in the city for more than 24 hours without having first obtained a permit for such placement. Temporary portable storage units do not include trash and garbage receptacles or dumpsters ordinarily used for the storage of garbage or construction debris. Refer to the Fee Schedule.
No temporary trash, garbage receptacle, roll-off construction dumpster or other similar units shall be placed on a business or residential lot in the city for more than 48 hours without having first obtained a permit for such placement. Refer to the Fee Schedule.
Dumpsters or other similar units shall not be placed in the city right-of-way at any time and must be placed on private property.
Construction dumpsters permits are limited for the length of a valid building permit issued by the city for construction at any business or residential lot in the city. Dumpsters permits for non-construction uses are valid for not more than 60 days .
Floodplain Development Permits
The City of Castle Hills has adopted a Flood Damage Prevention Code to to promote the public health, safety and general welfare and to minimize public and private losses due to flood conditions in areas subject periodic inundation of flood waters. Work in Right of Way Permits (WiROW)
An applicant may be required to obtain a WiROW permit and any other permits in addition to a WiROW permit, as reasonably required by applicable city ordinances, prior to any excavation, construction, installation, expansion, repair, removal, relocation or maintenance within the public right-of-way.
Once a WiROW permit is issued, the applicant shall give to the city a minimum of 48 hours' notice (which could be at the time of the issuance of the permit) prior to undertaking any work in, on or under the public rights-of-way. The failure of the applicant to request and obtain a WiROW permit from the city prior to performing any work in, on or over any public right-of-way, except in an emergency as provided for in subsection (l) of this section, will subject the applicant to a stop work order from the city and enforcement action pursuant to the city's ordinances. If the applicant fails to act upon any permit within 90 calendar days of issuance, the WiROW permit shall become invalid, and the applicant will be required to obtain another WiROW permit.

In order to achieve orderly, efficient and environmentally sound development of land, the city must be provided with appropriate guidelines and development management mechanisms. The rules and regulations adopted as the Subdivision Regulations in the City of Castle Hills Code of Ordinances Chapter 40 shall be applicable to the filing of plats and to the subdivision of land, as that term is defined herein and in V.T.C.A., Local Government Code Chapter 212. Permit applications are available during permit office business hours. Permits submitted in person are typically processed immediately and permits issued the same day. Some permits will require plan review which will delay the issuance of the permit.

Applications will be processed and available for pick-up the next business day.
Permits must be signed and filled out completely including the value of the project. The permit fee is based on the market value of the goods and services. The value of the job is the total market value of the project. Refer to the Fee Schedule for more details.
A site plan or survey must be submitted with a permit application for the following:
- Accessory buildings
- Anything anchored to the ground
- Driveway approaches
- Green house
- New Construction
- Swimming pools

Asbestos Letter/Study Required
